Puzzles in Movies and Video Games
Puzzles have existed in movies and video games for as long as the two types of media have existed. They can serve as the main point, or as something that the characters or player have to solve to continue.
In the recent Escape Room movies, puzzles are the point of the movies. National Treasure used puzzles as a key point. Knives Out Glass Onion started with an elaborate puzzle box. The Tomb Raider movies, based on the games, heavily featured puzzles. Others are The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Sahara, the Indiana Jones movies and many more.
Video games have always liked using puzzles. There are those like The Room series, House of Da Vinci, Myst and others for which the puzzle is the game. Others, like the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series, Control and early 2D games like Day of the Tentacle, 7th Guest, etc had a lot of puzzles in them (even if the solutions were not always clear). Finally, the text adventure, Zork, taught us to stay out of the dark or risk being eaten by a Grue.
